AFC Encourages Ecumenical Outreach With 2024 Request for Proposals (RFP)
The Anglican Foundation of Canada (AFC) is inviting all Canadian Anglicans to share an ecumenical embrace with fellow Christians from the Oriental Orthodox Churches and ready their submissions for the 2024 Request for Proposals (RFP) under the theme: Ecumenical Embrace.
“These church communities encompass some of the oldest centres of Christianity in the Ancient Near East,” says Dr. Scott Brubacher, Executive Director. “Many members of these churches—from Armenia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Syria, Eritrea, Lebanon, India, and other parts of Western Asia—have come to Canada in recent years to escape violence and political unrest, joining with established Christian communities in this country.”
Brubacher explains that AFC wants to encourage Canadian Anglicans to connect with these neighbours through ecumenical outreach projects and new shared ministries, “so that we may learn from each other and appreciate the diversity that exists within the Body of Christ.”
Brubacher says the RFP has been developed in close consultation with the Trust Advisory Committee for the Scholarship of St Basil the Great, which is providing the funding.
As with recent RFPs, grants for both ongoing and emerging projects will be considered. Category A grants, of up to $5,000 will be evaluated based on impact and how they support an ecumenical outreach project or a new shared ministry in a local context. Category B grants of up to $15,000 will be considered based on impact, project scope, and how they support an ecumenical outreach project or a new shared ministry in a city, diocese, or region.
Eligible uses of funding include, but are not limited to, administrative expenses, travel costs, equipment, technical costs, remuneration, honoraria, and food. Proposals will be accepted from September 1 to October 1, 2024.
AFC’s Board of Directors will review proposals in November and announce the grant recipients in early December. Proposals submitted in response to this RFP will not count as one of the four submissions each diocese is allowed per year.
