Rector, St. Martin-in-the-Fields Anglican Church
Toronto, Ontario
Diocese of Toronto
I was privileged to visit with members of the Armenian Apostolic Church in 1998 with the support of a Scholarship of St. Basil the Great through the Anglican Foundation. I spent three months in the holy city of Etchmiadzin in Armenia and a further month with the Brothers of St. James in the Armenian quarter of Jerusalem. The perseverance and faith of the Armenian people and Church over many centuries has been an inspiration to me as I seek to live out the Gospel in an increasingly secular world. The depth of their liturgical prayer has led me to a deeper appreciation of the mystery of God’s presence in the liturgy and the gathered community. The importance of being and praying with other Christians from all spiritual traditions has become crucial to my understanding of the faith. It informs my present work as Ecumenical Officer for the Diocese of Toronto, and my participation in the Anglican Orthodox International Theological Dialogue. It has led to many long lasting connections with Christians of various denominations in the Toronto area.
