Enjoying a little Say Yes! to Kids Horsepower in Saskatoon

On Sunday, February 13 the young (and young-at-heart!) were treated to a horse-and-wagon ride around the neighbourhood at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church in Saskatoon. St. Stephen’s received a $5,000 grant from the Anglican Foundation of Canada (AFC) through the Say Yes! to Kids initiative for their ‘Plan C’ project: Being the Church, Creatively in COVID.

“We are so grateful to the foundation for this grant and helping us to do more to reach out to young people who are not already connected to our parish,” says the Rev. Amy Bunce, Incumbent at St. Stephen’s. “The wagon ride was so much fun. The horses were beautiful, they stopped to let little kids pet them around the neighbourhood. We had hot chocolate and cookies and a much-needed chance to visit after a long winter of isolation.”

Bunce says the winter horse and wagon ride is just the beginning. St. Stephen’s vision is to offer a variety of safe and inviting events that will nurture children and youth who are already part of the church community, but also welcome more friends and neighbours into the tent, especially those who may not be part of a community of faith.

The church will use the AFC grant to hold more regular, outdoor, gospel-based activities for children and families. “Thanks to AFC and Say Yes! to Kids, we will build on our successes and increase the frequency and variety of these events.”
