AFC says farewell to past Directors and welcomes new Directors
This past spring marked a time of transition for the Anglican Foundation of Canada (AFC), as the Board of Directors said farewell to three longstanding Directors, who had each completed six years of service. At the same time, the Board welcomed two new Directors as well as one new Diocesan Representative. The Board also used the opportunity of an in-person meeting to recognize and thank Archbishop Linda Nicholls, Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, for her five years of service as Chair of the Anglican Foundation, though her term will officially conclude in September.
Board of Directors
At its meeting in Edmonton this past May, the Board appointed newly elected Director the Rt. Rev. John Stephens, Bishop of New Westminster, as Vice-chair of AFC. Bishop John will replace the Most Rev. Anne Germond, Bishop of Algoma and Metropolitan of the Ecclesiastical Province of Ontario, as Vice-chair and the elected bishop member on AFC’s Board. Archbishop Anne was first elected to the Board in 2018 and has served in various capacities, including as Chair of the Nominating Committee and the Grants Committee.
Also at the May meeting, the Board appointed newly elected Director Walter Howell, a parishioner from St. John the Evangelist, Peterborough, Diocese of Toronto, as Treasurer. Walter will replace Peter Fullerton who has served on the Board and in the position of Treasurer since 2018. Fullerton served variously on the Investment and Audit & Risk Committees, as well as serving as Chair of the Finance Committee for the last year.
Also having come to the end of his term was Michal Haddad, a lawyer in the Diocese of Toronto, who joined the board in 2018 and served in various capacities, including on the Audit & Risk Committee, reviewing applications with the Grants Committee, and chairing the Compliance Committee, which morphed into the current Governance & Nominating Committee.
There is currently one vacancy on the Board.
Diocesan Representatives
Christopher Loat, a Trustee at St. Christopher’s in West Vancouver, has been appointed as AFC’s Diocesan Representative for the Diocese of New Westminster. Chris will join a team of more than twenty Representatives from coast to coast to coast who support the work of AFC by serving as liaisons between Foundation staff and individual dioceses.
“The perspective and contributions of leaders from across the Anglican Church of Canada is central to AFC’s vision to be a truly collaborative partner with the Anglican Church of Canada,” says Dr. Scott Brubacher, Executive Director.
“It is difficult to say goodbye to Directors who have become dear friends by the end of their terms on the Board. We will continue to hold these friendships dear while building new relationships and welcoming fresh perspectives.”
The work of AFC depends on the dedication of numerous volunteers who serve on the Board of Directors, as Diocesan Representatives, and as members of other Advisory Committees. Individual Anglicans who are interested in contributing to the work of AFC are encouraged to contact the Executive Director.
