AFC Board Approves $175,500 in Grants in Q1 2026 Grants Cycle
The Anglican Foundation of Canada (AFC) Board of Directors met by ZOOM on Thursday, February 19, 2026, and approved $175,500 in funding to support ministries across Canada. The grants reflect AFC’s ongoing commitment to strengthening local outreach, sustaining vital infrastructure, advancing leadership formation, and deepening Indigenous–settler reconciliation.
“This grant cycle demonstrates the breadth of ministry happening across our Church,” said Dr. Scott Brubacher, Executive Director of AFC. “From food security initiatives and community partnerships to leadership development and reconciliation work, these projects embody faithful, practical responses to real needs in communities from coast to coast to coast.”
Highlights of the Q1 Grant Cycle include:
- Gathering Table in Thunder Bay (Diocese of Algoma), where a $5,000 grant will support the launch of Dinner Church, an extension of its established Food Cupboard Ministry. Located in the downtown core where food insecurity continues to rise, the parish will host intergenerational shared meals accompanied by live music, reflection, and testimony. Designed to build relationships alongside nourishment, Dinner Church seeks to create a welcoming space for individuals experiencing isolation, poverty, and homelessness.
- St. George’s Anglican Church in Clarksburg (Diocese of Huron) received $15,000 for its WAYGATE Outreach Project. Developed in partnership with community organizations, the initiative will improve access to food, water, and spaces for rest through the creation of a welcoming parkette-style gathering area. The project reflects a visible and collaborative model of Anglican presence in the public square.
- St. James the Apostle, Stanbridge East (Diocese of Montreal) received $12,000 for a Rectory Bathroom Renovation. Built in 1858, the historic rectory serves as the only active clergy residence for the Eastern Townships Regional Ministry, which supports ten small rural parishes. The renovation will address significant plumbing failure and water damage, ensuring that the rectory remains safe, functional, and sustainable for ongoing pastoral leadership in the region. By preserving this essential ministry hub, the project helps sustain Anglican presence and care across a wide rural area.
- $5,000 for the Diocese of New Westminster to support Feather Circles: Indigenous–Settler Relationship Building for Reconciliation. Led by Indigenous Elder and artist Rikki Kooy, the program will host gatherings across the diocese in 2026 that foster storytelling, cultural engagement, and meaningful dialogue. The initiative represents an important expression of relationship-building and reconciliation within the life of the Church.
- A national level grant award of $27,500 through the Scholarship of St. Basil the Great Trust to the Canadian Council of Churches for the Regional Ecumenical Theological Institute in Toronto. The program will bring together leaders from diverse Christian traditions for theological formation, dialogue, and collaborative learning—strengthening ecumenical leadership across Canada.
Together, these grants demonstrate AFC’s commitment to supporting both grassroots parish initiatives and national leadership efforts.
