AFC Awards $273,000 in 4th Quarter Grant Cycle
The Anglican Foundation of Canada (AFC) has announced $273,000 in funding to support ministry projects across Canada in its 4th quarter grant cycle. AFC’s board of directors met in person on November 21–22 and awarded grants to 76 beneficiaries across 24 dioceses.
Dr. Scott Brubacher, Executive Director of AFC, says that with the three previous grant cycles, automatic disbursements from AFC’s named trusts, and the first-ever disbursements from the ACW Council of the North Retired Clergy Fund, 2024 is on track to exceed $1 Million in disbursements. This will be AFC’s 4th consecutive year exceeding that milestone.
Special guest Maria Reolin, Executive Director of Flemingdon Park Ministry in the Diocese of Toronto stopped by to thank the board for past grants to her program and to provide an update on her organization’s commitment to supporting newcomers to Canada in Toronto’s Flemingdon Park neighbourhood. Reolin explained that while special project grants are welcome, “And many of our clients really enjoy the programs we offer,” she says it is “sustainable funding that remains their ministry’s biggest challenge.”
The meeting was chaired by AFC’s recently appointed Vice-chair, the Rt. Rev. John Stephens, Bishop of New Westminster. In addition to awarding the 4th quarter grants and bursaries, the board of directors approved the proposed budget for 2025 and discussed plans for the year ahead, including AFC’s presence at General Synod in June, approval of a proposed sabbatical project for AFC’s Executive Director, and the launch of a new strategic planning process in fall 2025 for the next stage of AFC’s growth.
