In 2002, in order to expand mobile shelving and to provide a lift to make our archives space fully accessible, the head of the Archives Fundraising committee, Shelagh M’Gonigle, recommended we apply to the Anglican Foundation for a grant. Over the course of a dozen years we applied three times to the Anglican Foundation to upgrade facilities, expand mobile shelving. This prompted us to have the Friends of the Archives become a member of the Anglican Foundation.
The grants from the Anglican Foundation were instrumental to assuring local donors of the worth of the Diocesan Archives and proved the basis for a larger fundraising total of a third of a million dollars to provide appropriate housing for the records of our Diocese. The Anglican Diocese of Ottawa Archives is a donor because, in our gratitude for what the Anglican Foundation has done for us, we trust that our support of the Foundation will be paid forward to the benefit of other worthy projects across the Canadian Church.
