Thank You to Donors!

Best-ever annual campaign raises more than $192,000

There was an overwhelming spirit of generosity among Canadian Anglicans in 2023 as Anglican Foundation of Canada (AFC) members and donors from coast to coast to coast responded to the annual fundraising effort, expected to total more than $192,000—$180,000 in annual membership donations, plus over $12,000 in donations specific to AFC’s priority granting impact zones.

“This is AFC’s most successful annual campaign to date, by far,” says Dr. Scott Brubacher, Executive Director of AFC. “We know 2023 was not without financial challenges—for both our individual and organization members—but the growth of the annual fundraising program reflects a deepening bond between Canadian Anglicans and their national foundation.”

Noteworthy was an increase of 15% in the average donation amount from member churches. “We have spent the last few years emphasizing the cooperative nature of AFC membership and inviting parishes to become members at either the Companion ($100 to $499) or Benefactor ($500 to $999) levels based on their means,” says Brubacher. “I have been deeply moved to see the number of churches willing to stretch themselves and to make higher-level commitments to AFC a priority as part of their outreach budget.”

Members of St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, Peterborough, visit the AFC display table at the Diocese of Toronto’s November 2023 Synod. Synods are a wonderful opportunity to give thanks, in person, to the many churches and individuals who choose to be AFC members.

There has also been a move in recent years to enable donors to support the AFC impact zone of their choice, including the newly established Community Ministries Fund. “This year we saw more than $12,000 in combined gifts for Indigenous Ministries, Community Ministries, and Sacred Music & Liturgical Arts,” explains Brubacher. “Many AFC donors prefer the traditional membership model, but others want to directly support grants for these specific funding streams. This dual approach enables us to be donor-centred while also maximizing funding for the areas of greatest need in our grant program.”

AFC’s annual report to donors will be published in May and will include the final results of the 2023 appeal as well as recognition of all 2023 members.
