As the world moves toward pandemic recovery, communities across the country are looking to the re-opening of churches as hubs for essential activities. For two spring 2021 grant recipients—St. John’s, Fort Smith, NT, and St. Brice’s, North Bay, ON—AFC grants for parish hall projects have been timely.
AFC’s spring 2021 granting cycle included a Yes! to the Capella Regalis Men & Boys Choir, in Halifax, NS. The $5,000 grant was enabled by the A.E.J. Fulford Trust for sacred music, which has been helping musicians, young and old, to imagine more for nearly fifty years.
The Anglican Foundation of Canada celebrated the close of the Say Yes! to Kids campaign today with a Celebration of Giving via ZOOM to announce the final result of the campaign: over $110,000. The Rev. Canon Dr. Judy Rois, Executive Director, AFC, thanked AFC’s friends and volunteers—Board Directors, Diocesan Representatives, Bishops, and diocesan staff champions—who carried the banner for Say Yes! to Kids in their dioceses.
The Anglican Foundation of Canada’s (AFC) Say Yes! to Kids campaign has united volunteer fundraisers from across the country. As the campaign enters its final week, AFC is celebrating the efforts of one of its youngest fundraising teams: St. John’s & St. Andrew’s Kids, a partnership between the youth at St. John’s, Fort Smith, and St. Andrew’s, Hay River, two very community-focused churches in the Diocese of the Arctic.
The first gift to the Say Yes! to Kids campaign came on March 25, and it was given by a 14 year-old boy—sharing money, set aside as a periodic tithe from his allowance. The gift that helped us officially achieve our $100,000 goal came on June 24, from a retired priest, now in his 90s.
The Anglican Foundation of Canada’s (AFC) Say Yes! to Kids campaign received a $2,500 donation from St. Luke’s, Winnipeg, bringing the national campaign, now in its final week, to nearly $95,000.
Based on the success of the Say Yes! to Kids campaign, the Anglican Foundation of Canada is issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP) that contribute to the physical, intellectual, emotional, or spiritual well-being of children, youth, or young adults within Canada. “The Say Yes! to Kids campaign is still active until the end of June,” says Canon Judy Rois, Executive Director, “and with more than $85,000 raised to date, we now know this will be AFC’s largest-ever RFP.”
The Anglican Foundation of Canada and the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa are joining forces to raise funds for Say Yes! to Kids in support of programs that will benefit children, youth, and young adults and resource the church’s pandemic recovery efforts. “Every day there is another news story, quoting more studies and expert opinions, warning about the immense challenges that this pandemic-impacted generation will struggle to overcome.”
