With the help of people from the congregation to serve as den mothers for the group and others to source podcasting equipment, the intergenerational team has braved the learning curve of podcasting together. “The youth choose the topics,” says the Rev. Jann Brooks, who wants as much as possible for the program to be fully youth-led.

And so, the work of the last 18 months comes to a conclusion—the last notes, the final bar line of this piece, but perhaps only the first movement of a new symphony that remains to be realized, as AFC’s strategic plan unfolds through the coming years. We hope that this newly realized grants program will encourage Anglicans with vision to seek out AFC support to bring their projects to fruition.

February 2023 has been a busy month for the Anglican Foundation of Canada’s (AFC) Kids Helping Kids Fund (KHK) thanks to a recent round of grants to high-impact community ministries with close ties to the Anglican Church of Canada. All three grants reflect KHK’s longstanding commitment to young people, and to growing community through caring, compassionate service.

SYTK 2023 will look very much like the 2022 campaign. We will launch on Tuesday, April 11, and close on June 30. Parishes can choose the fundraising activity that suits them best, but our team will help with fundraising ideas. And we are absolutely working to identify donors who will support the matching gift program, which has been very successful in boosting campaign revenue.

There is great power in charitable giving through an endowment fund. It is a reflection of your values and a statement to future generations about your foresight, concern, imagination, and vision. We will work with you to share your story and inspire others to make a difference across the Canadian church.

The children’s garden at Immanuel Anglican Church Regina came to life in 2022 thanks to a grant from AFC’s Say Yes! To Kids (SYTK) initiative. The kids had great fun digging, planting, and watering. By July the garden had started producing, and children enjoyed eating what they had grown. Who knew how delicious lettuce is when you pick it yourself?

“In recent years we have been able to push our grants program to greater heights thanks to the steadily increasing generosity of AFC supporters,” says Dr. Scott Brubacher, Executive Director, AFC. “We know 2022 presented huge challenges to our members and we are grateful for the steadfast support of AFC donors.”

“At the end of October we successfully accomplished our goal of running Bible Camps in the seven Arctic Communities of Inuvik, Tuktoyaktuk, Fort McPherson, Paulatuk, Aklavik, Kugluktuk and Cambridge Bay,” says Robin Abrol, Director of Ministry. “Over 190 Inuit and Gwich’in children, ages 5-11, heard the good news of Christ’s love and care.”

Messages of gratitude pour in as grant applicants notified. “Communication is of utmost importance for our area,” says Bishop Isaiah Larry Beardy, Indigenous Suffragan Bishop for the Northern Manitoba Area Mission. His Starlink Community Hubs project was one of 15 successful applicants in the RFP for Indigenous Ministries.
